FOOTBALL: Tiverton's unbeaten run in danger

Tiverton look to extend their ten match unbeaten run tomorrow when they entertain Bishops Cleeve in the Evo-Stik southern league.

But the Villagers are on an impressive run themselves – five wins and three draws with just a lone single goal defeat at home to Bideford a fortnight ago spoiling their rise into the top half of the table.

They are now two points above Tivvy who have a game in hand, which is the Didcot match that fell foul of the weather last week.

This has now been rearranged for Tuesday February 28.

Tiverton Town Reserves maintained their momentum at the top of Devon & Exeter League Division Two with a 4-0 victory over Colyton on Saturday with a hat-trick from leading scorer Jesse Howe and one from Tom Tricker.

Howe is in a rich vein of form, having scored twice in the reserves previous game.

Elmore Reserves belied their lowly position to aid Tivvy's championship aspirations when they won 5-3 at second placed Chard Town Reserves.

Next Saturday Tivvy travel to Clyst Valley Reserves.

Next Sunday is a big day for Tiverton's U18s who enjoyed a decent FA Youth Cup run earlier this season.

They travel to Roborough, Plymouth, to take on Tamerton Foliot Youth in the county cup with the prize of a semi-final place at stake for the winners.

Last Sunday they managed to take maximum points off the leaders of the Devon County League, Exmouth Amateurs, winning 4-1.

The goals came from Ben Friend, Jack McGovern, Max Bristow and Chris Atyeo.

Westinsure Devon St Lukes Cup Quarter Final

Bideford 1, Tiverton Town 2

AS has been the trend in recent seasons, Tiverton used this county cup tie to blood some of the up and coming youngsters who have been shining in the reserves and youth teams.

Similarly, Bideford played a number of their reserves and, on a bitterly cold night, the game did not live up to expectations on a heavily sanded pitch.

Neat interplay orchestrated by Michael Nardiello ended when he rolled the ball into Liam Ellis' path three minutes before the break and, without breaking stride, he hammered it goalwards, the ball ending up in the back of the net via a deflection.

Bideford's equaliser came from the spot, as it had done at the start of the month in the league encounter.

It was awarded for a foul by Russell Jee on Richard Groves and despatched by Groves - a cracking drive into the roof of the net - in the 62nd minute.

Then in the 76th minute, Jules Emati-Emati, having a quiet game up to this point, got a telling nod on to set Nardiello on his way.

He outstripped his marker before drawing Hider out of his goal and calmly slotting home the winner.

Tiverton: Chris Wright, Josh Concanen, Adam Kana-Ah, Russell Jee, Liam Pike (Ed Plackett, 73 mins), Tom Gardner, Josh Searle, Liam Ellis, Michael Nardiello (Owen Howe, 82 mins), Jules Emati-Emati, Jesse Howe (Tom Tricker, 66 mins) Attendance: 88.
